Born in Denton, England, on June 8, 1960, Mick Hucknall was raised by his father, a barber, after his mother left the family when he was three.

Despite the lack of maternal affection, Mick's father encouraged his son's passion for music and aesthetics.

In the mid-1970s, Hucknall's musical tastes were shaped by the rebellious punk movement, particularly the Sex Pistols. He formed the band "Frantic Elevators," which released several singles, including the future hit "Holding Back the Years."
