Birth and Baptism

Blessed Laura Vicuña was born on April 5, 1891, in Santiago, Chile.

She was baptized on April 24, 1891. Her father, Jose Domingo Vicuña, was an army officer stationed in Temuco on the Argentine border. After her father's death, Laura's mother entered into a common-law relationship with Manuel Mora, a wealthy farmer.

Education and Vocation

In 1901, Laura enrolled in a boarding school in Junin de los Andes, Argentina, run by the Salesian Sisters.

On December 8, 1901, she joined the Daughters of Mary Sodality.
