Absolutely brilliant autobiography.

Like most autobiographies, it is, at times, self-indulgent but this is largely overshadowed by the sparkling diamonds shed on to the page from a beautiful mind that WCW had.

He gives much advice to up-and-coming poets such as...
"the first thing to do in hearing poems is not to try to understand them at the start at least, but to listen" (p.

387) In other words he tells us that we need to feel the MUSIC of poetry first, and then look for meaning later on.

I agree with Williams' assessment that the governments of the world are out to keep the artists on the sidelines as much as possible.
